Our Story

A New Zealand brand built on one idea: the right light can change how a room feels.

Meet Larry. Larry is the character at the heart of Light By Larry: a made-up, light-obsessed daydreamer who stands for everything we love about atmosphere. He’s not one for the spotlight, so we’ll let him explain in his own words. The real people behind the brand are a small New Zealand team, and you’ll always deal with us directly.

“I’ve never been particularly good at talking about myself... I’ve spent most of my life actively avoiding the spotlight. I’ve always preferred being behind the scenes - quietly building, thinking, and creating.”

“I have an obsessive personality and a childlike imagination... so when something peaks my interest, I tend to get completely lost in it.”

- Larry

Light By Larry grew out of Larry’s love of design and making things, and a passion for shaping the world around him.

Larry has always been an introvert who enjoys his own company. He found comfort in building spaces that felt like his own little world, places to escape to, where the atmosphere matched his imagination.

Then he went to Tokyo. Wandering the neon-lit streets, he was amazed by the energy the lights brought to the city. It left him feeling alive, curious and inspired.

Larry realised light can transform a space, shape a mood, create emotion and tell a story. He came home with a mission: to bring that same magic into other people’s homes and businesses.

His latest obsession? Light.
